While many flowers and veggies can be grown this way, some do better than others in pots. Here are the top plants that I’ve noticed not only thrive when contained but make my porch feel more cheerful. Pansies are doing wonderfully in the large black pot by the door. Their bright faces lift my spirits each morning. The herbs on the windowsill are delighted too, especially the thyme, basil and dill. Their flavors will be handy come spring. I’ve hung some trailing petunias over the railing and how they glow! Tomatoes take to buckets quite nicely as do squash. Their vines filling the containers with plenty of supper ingredients. Containers truly are a solution for small areas like mine. I’m looking forward to seeing what else will bloom and produce with their roots restricted but cozy in clay and fibers.
